Japanese harmony
Tranquil ponds that reflect perfectly clipped hedges, babbling waterfalls, fountains and meticulously landscaped gravel – the Japanese like perfection in nature. And for a good reason of course: everything in a Japanese garden has a meaning, to create the perfect setting for peaceful meditation, a serene walk or a traditional tea ceremony. Regarded as one of the most authentic Japanese gardens in North America, Nitobe Memorial Garden is the perfect spot for quiet contemplation and harmony. When the Japanese Emperor visited, he proclaimed: ‘I am in Japan!’
Disappear in VanDusen
Located in the heart of the city, the 22-hectare VanDusen Garden is Vancouver’s largest botanical garden. The garden features a beautiful maze. Traditionally, mazes were created as a symbol of the tribulations of life or to confuse evil spirits. But the VanDusen maze, created with 3,000 conifer trees, is a peaceful place to lose yourself in the greenery and clear your mind.
A healing surprise
The Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver’s highest point, is a tropical garden under a large dome. Inside you will find a healing garden which stimulates all senses for a positive effect on body and soul. The chirping of more than 200 exotic birds also contributes to the serene atmosphere. A surprising and lovely paradise.
